Virtual Sales Calls Lack Energy? Try This Proven Technique!
You’ve probably heard the saying that the camera adds 10 pounds. But did you know it subtracts anywhere from 10-50% of your energy!? Good to know when you’re making virtual sales calls!
When selling from home it is easier than ever before to get too relaxed and comfortable on a virtual sales call. Unfortunately, that lowered energy on top of what the camera takes away can read as disinterest to your customers and soon have everybody yawning.
So how do you bring the appropriate amount of energy and passion to your virtual calls to keep your customers engaged?
Kick it up a notch by doing an “over-the-top” read! Actors often use this technique before a taping or live performance in order to amp up their energy so that their passion and personality can truly shine. And it works just the same for salespeople!
Here’s how to go “over-the-top” in virtual sales calls:
- Before your call, rehearse part of your conversation or pitch with as much excitement and energy as you can muster. When you feel like you’ve reached your limit, push yourself even further. Really go over-the-top! (Think melodrama)
- Try emphasizing random words, playing with volume, and using a lot of variety.
- Bring your body into it by gesturing dramatically.
- Most importantly, have some fun with it!
I know what you’re thinking – you’d blow a customer right out of their chair by using this technique! Don’t worry. You are not going to actually do this on the call. Going over-the-top before your call simply serves as a launch point to boost your energy. Once the camera’s on, most salespeople find that doing this beforehand elevates their energy and reduces their nerves.
Don’t let a lack of energy stand between you and a sale. Get out of that chair and go over-the-top before your next video call!
