When I was just starting out in sales, I recall sitting across from a client and on his desk was a big, overflowing rolodex that I just knew was full of my targeted buyers. I remember thinking, “If I could have ten minutes to go through it, I’d be able to identify dozens of targeted buyers that he knows that I want to meet and the referrals could fill my pipeline for weeks!” But in 1992 it wasn’t politically acceptable to say “Mr. Client, can I thumb through your address book?”
Well, fast-forward decades later and that is what we have with LinkedIn! We have the ability to filter and search our connections’ connections and position ourselves for introductions, referrals and permission to name-drop.
